I wanted to enjoy it - really I did. It just left me with so many questions and not enough answers to want you to keep reading past this book. The first half is so slow that it was hard to want to keep going at all.
It shows you a close knit group of people (vampires?), but then doesn't let you get close enough to them to actually care about them at all. The romance felt forced, and had the whole "they just felt so... drawn to each other" vibe. But... why? Why were they drawn to each other? The romance just wasn't there for me, which was really disappointing.
It needed more context. Maybe some lore dumps. Anything. It did not give enough for the reader to understand what was going on. And the "twist" at the end felt... like it needed more set-up. It just felt so... false.
This book definitely left me with a feeling of unfulfilled satisfaction with little desire to continue with the series.
