I'm a huge sucker for a great Beauty and the Beast story and Amalie Howard does not disappoint!
To say that Lady Astrid Everleigh had a disappointing debut is an understatement. Many years later her goal in life has become saving her younger sister for a lifetime of misery married to the jerk who ruined Astrid's chancees of a happy society marriage. There are hints of Taming of the Shrew with Astrid's actions and attitude, but I love her take no BS attitude even while her actions narely remain within the boundaries her disgusting Aunt and Uncle expect. Until they don't.
When she approached Thane - the "Beastly" Duke of Beswick with her offer of marriage, she neither expected the sparks between them nor did she expect his rejection. In a desperate attempt to save her sister, she develps a Plan B which works for awhile before her Plan A goes into effect and Astrid and Thane get married - but they still have a lot of things to work out on their way to their HEA.
There's a bit of a coincidence when it come to the other villian. While he is a total piece of work, we do have hopes that he will get his comeuppance in the end There were plenty of times where I just wanted the H & H to have a real conversation and talk about everything, and for Thane to realize that Astrid really cared for him, but if that had happened, we never would have that final big missunderstanding and the final HEA.
I'm really looking forward to reading the nexe in the series - Winter and Isobel's storiy.
