It wasn’t for me

When I read an excerpt of this novel, I was drawn to the narrative style used by the author. As I continued further into the novel, I not only discovered that it was the third novel in a series, I also often found myself lost and confused. There are a lot of vague, yet seemingly important, references to prior event and people, and there is not enough background given so that an individual that has not read the first two novels can understand the significance of these people and things. I found myself not very invested in the characters because I didn’t really understand them. I’m not saying that this is a bad novel—those that have read the other two might really enjoy it—but it wasn’t for me.
