20 years ago Jamie’s sister Emma was attacked by The Baby Sitter Stalker. Two other victims lives were claimed, but Emma survived. In the present, Jamie has returned to a River Glen to care for Emma after the death of their mother. Emma has never been the same since the attack. When another baby sitter is attacked, the town starts the rumor mill again, maybe the stalker has returned.

I really enjoyed the writing style of this book. I found the relationships endearing and the characters well developed. The relationship between Jamie, Emma, and Jamie’s daughter Harley is complicated and felt real. It was also heartwarming at time.

This books reads like a Lifetime movie. If you’re going in expecting a slasher film, you’re going to be disappointed. While there is suspense and a good twist, this book spends a lot of time going back and forth on adult crushes and gossip. I found the gossip/investigation to be extremely repetitive. This book definitely could have been shorter to deliver a punchy thriller novel.

If you’re looking for fall vibes this has them. Set mostly in October, there are teenage boys in iconic horror movie masks, very fun. I loved the setting in the Pacific Northwest.

While this one missed the mark on my expectations, if you like a slow burn romantic suspense novel with a great setting, you’ll enjoy this one. Thank you to Bookishfirst and Kensington Books for my copy.
