The preface written through text messages drew me in immediately, and I hope to see more of that writing style in the rest of the story. Mattie is a unique, yet incredibly relatable combination of sass, nerdiness, and vulnerability. I'm eager to see if the next chapters are written from different perspectives.
The cover and general premise of the book are what initially piqued my interest, but the writing was a much different style and voice than I was expecting - not bad, just different. I was expecting a thriller/historical fiction mash up, but got an edgy, contemporary YA.
