This wasn't a bad book, it had a very interesting plot. A employee of the London Natural Museum, Hetty Cartwright, is in charge of getting the museum's mammal collection moved to Lockwood Manor during the war to protect them. Lockwood Manor is owned by Lord Lockwood who is a typical ornery man and his daughter is a lost soul which could be because of the recent tragedy they all experienced. Hetty is faced with a lot of resistance as she tries to complete her job.
Not only that, but oddly enough, the animals keep moving. Hetty doesn't know if someone is doing it themselves or what. Even more so, no one seems to care or even believe her. She sees things move at night and is convinced the house is haunted. In spite of all this, she still is able to strike up a friendship with Lucy, Lord Lockwood's daughter, who as I mentioned earlier is sort of a lost soul.
I'll be honest, I thought this was going to be a little different. The WW 2 aspect was what attracted me to the book first, but in all honestly, it has nothing to do with the story at all.
So the good... I liked the story idea, and I like the gothic touch to the book. Hetty is flawed and not good in social situations which I related to.
The bad - I wanted it to be more suspenseful and urgent. The book was very bland. It was like a plain bowl of rice with no flavor.
I'm giving it 2.5 stars but rounded it up to 3.
