Promising description but first pages didn't grab me

I like the description of the book, but the first twelve pages did not hook me. That's not necessarily indicative of an uninteresting book; clearly the action hasn't started yet. I'm not convinced either way....this could be a riveting ride or a hokey and predictable snooze. I would give it a good 50 pages to get moving, and I hope it's worth it!
