The first pages describing moving the animals out of a museum to preserve them during the war seemed interesting enough, but then veered off into a flashback look at the main characters adoptive parents who were not portrayed in a positive way. As an adoptive parent, I am so tired of the "bad adopted parents" trope. Let's try to be a little more original please!
