I was drawn to this because of the blurb, which hints at both some good creepiness and a queer relationship, but I can't tell if either of those will actually be in the book. The excerpt with which we've been provided is very short—far too short for me to really get a good read on whether or not I'll like the book. All I can say is that the premise intrigues me, and I think that a strong empathy for Hetty was seeded very quickly in this first chapter. But I'm also not quite sold on the first-person narration—there seems to be a lot of telling instead of showing, and it all felt a bit dull. Hopefully it'll get less dull as the story moves away from backstory and into actual plot.
