The gothic feel of this novel I found intriguing immediately because it has a lot of the elements I love: an orphan, a big, mysterious house, a woman educated more than is prudent in her lifetime, and animals (even if they are skeletons or stuffed). The only downside is that I have to wait to read the rest of it.
I like the cover. The sideways big cat is menacing and the Victorian looking wallpaper adds an element of menace.
