Good start with intriguing character

By the end of the excerpt I already felt invested in the main character. Reading how her mother treats her, it was easy to feel protective and want her to have some type of happiness in her life. Given the war is starting, it might be awhile before that happens but I would love to hear the rest of her story. I like how she was tasked to move items from the museum to a more secure location. I'm curious to see how much of her job will be part of the plot.
