Usually, novels are about the quest and the events that lead up to acquiring the "thing" but what happens afterwards? This book flips back and forth between the before and the after of the Quest. We get points of view from two of the characters that were on the quest, Kalanthe and Olsa, and both come from very different backgrounds. Olsa seems to go back to her old ways of thieving, although everyone knows that she is a Hero and Kalanthe continues on with her knighthood training. It seems that although Olsa and Kalanthe are going in different trajectories, their paths will remained crossed as the book goes on.
I love that this is a mystery unfolding as we read and will delve more into the fall-out of what happens when someone becomes a "hero". I also love the flashback; learning about the other characters on the quest and the events that lead up to the destruction of the Old God.
