I really couldn't hate the cover art any more than I do. The cover art is so incredibly ugly and basically inept it's sort of amazing that a quality publisher would use it.
But this is a pretty typical, well-crafted tale of high-fantasy adventure and will do fine with a teenage audience, I think. --Or anyone who just wants to read this kind of adventure.
The characters deal with things like growing up and having periods and sorts of human things that might speak more to a youngish crowd. One does feel that our heroes are pretty young.
