Stuart Turton has become one of my favorite authors. He is able to craft really engaging, thoughtful stories. The fact that this is his debut is mind-boggling. I am generally slow to pick up on clues in mystery novels, but Turton created a plot that was intricate, easy to follow, left breadcrumbs that I felt weren't too confusing, and was genuinely just fun. In spite of all of this, I constantly had no clue what was going on. I did not know what to was going to happen on the next page and who was going to wake up next. This is the *best* part of the book though--the feeling of uneasiness you get while reading it and the desire to concretely find out the ending.

One of my favorite things about this book is the setting and atmosphere. Blackheath Estate is palpable. The characters are fully-formed and the twist that Turton gives is so interesting. All-in-all a joy to read.
