This book was one of my most anticipated books for the year. I had heard about it in the beginning of the year. I knew that I could have ordered it from Book Depository and had it right away, but I decided to wait until fall knowing that I would love to read it during the Halloween season. It definitely fits in with the Halloween vibe and I’m glad that I chose to hold off buying it until it was released in the United States.

I really enjoyed the story and thought it was a truly unique plot. I was so excited to find out who did it and the journey we were going to take to find out the answer. Each new character we encountered truly felt like an individual and a new unique perspective. I thought that reading 8 perspectives would eventually begin to blur, but they each felt like their own person. Each character provided their own strengths and weaknesses that played a role in solving the crime.

The setting felt eerie. I agree with everyone saying that it felt like a book that Agatha Christie would have written or the mansion from the movie/game Clue. It was certainly a house and party that with outside perspective you would not want to be invited to. Secrets lurked around every corner.

It’s hard to describe what I had a problem with. There is a plot within the plot that was not mentioned in the synopsis that I wish was explained or exposed to us sooner. Aiden is in this house to solve this mystery, but so are other people. We are told that there are other people in the house trying to solve the murder, there are people that are out there to kill/stop him from solving the murder, and future/past versions of him are in other bodies in the same timeline as him. This just added more confusion to the book that I didn’t feel was necessary. We are eventually told that this is not Aiden’s first attempt of solving this murder. That he has failed this many times already, which then added the element of why is this happening? It felt like an added plot point that I just didn’t expect or want. It made the story drag out a little more than necessary.

It’s one of those stories where you don’t want to know too much before entering into the story. It was fun to find the twists and turns as it went!

Even though I had that problem, I still really enjoyed the book. I just didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. I still recommend it!
