Couldn't get into it

I tired several times, but I wasn't able to get into this book. Sometime I can jump right into a series and get involved immediately without missing a beat and sometimes I have even gone back and read the previous books in the series because I became so engaged with the world it builds and the characters. Here, I just felt like I was missing something the whole time and then I realized it was a prequel to a series I was not familiar, with and I struggled to become immersed in this world, but as it was, I just kept stopping and starting and just could get engaged. In any case, it's a police procedural involving a rookie police officer, Jane Tennison, in the seventies, when women were new to the police force. That dynamic was an interest element and I'm sure for fans of the series this will be a welcome addition to their collection.
