This is the first book I read by this author, and I enjoyed it. The character development was some of the best I have come across. While Carrie was the main character, and I liked the opportunity to get to know her, her parents were my favorites, especially her retired-NYPD detective who liked sitting at home eating pretzels, drinking beer and watching cop shows. He was tough, no nonsense and told it like it was. When Corrie entices him out of retirement to help her find out if the man in her Wednesday group is up to no good, he slowly comes around to the idea and joins in for the investigation. On the other hand, Corrie’s new husband, Josh, seems a bit self-centered, and I couldn’t help but wonder what she saw in him. While the book talked about about how rich Josh is, it didn’t seem like a motivating factor for a female like Corrie.

The investigation that Corrie starts is off to a very slow start with small details being added here and there. In the beginning that isn’t the most important part of the book, it’s more about getting to know the characters. There are some page-turning scenes close to the end, but it takes a while for the action to really begin.

There is some bad language, and sex is talked but thankfully there aren’t any of those moment-by-moment sex scenes that so many authors feel they have to include and that don’t add a thing to the story.

I enjoyed this and would like very much to see a sequel, especially if Corrie and her father had the major roles again.
