This is a very slow mystery. It's slow to find a real mystery. The main character, Corie, takes a while to decide if she has a real mystery on her hands. Maybe she's just missing the faster paced life she had before she got married. Is she seeing what's real or what she want to be real.
It's also slow in that nobody has a sense that they are in any danger. Nobody is on the surface. But the man Corie has questions about has questions himself about Corie. He is dangerous like a riptide. Nothing shows on the surface, but underneath is full of potentially fatal elements.
I liked this book. The slow pace was welcome after reading several faster paced thrillers and police procedurals. The payoff, the solution was very satisfying. Most of the supporting characters felt real, like you could meet them in real life. I recommend the book for a slow afternoon's reading.
I won the copy of the book I read for this review from BookishFirst.
