First of all, I thoroughly enjoyed Switch. It is the ultra-meta, heartwrenching story that A. S. King does best. However, I think people who are interested in reading this one should pick up a different King first, maybe Glory O'Brien or Ask the Passengers. I think being familiar with King's writing style and common themes would make this much easier to understand. As others have mentioned, Switch is super confusing at the beginning, but you kind of have to ride that out, because the plot isn't supposed to make sense.

Tru and her family are very typical A. S. King characters and have the dysfunctional dynamics she features in a lot of her books. I have only read 3 or 4 of her novels, and sometimes these family characteristics can become repetitive (e.g., absent mother, sibling problems). I would recommend this one to anyone looking for something mind-bending and eye-opening to the way people treat one another.
