Fans of a first love story will like this one
I'm a sucker for a first love story, one that truly captures that feeling of youth and those first strong feelings and the true immortal sense of first love and Nicholls manages to capture that here. I was a big fan of Nicholls' One Day and there are definitely different vibes here, but that true connection between 2 people isn't lost in Sweet Sorrow.
I will say the length of this book was a little long for me, but the format of the story - looking back during a time when our main character is now in the future and getting married and the obvious question of whether Fran would come back in to Charlie's life now kept me reading and wanting more. With a long book I need a reason to keep going and there is one here but I think it could have been shortened...
