Beautiful and sad
I really enjoy David Nichollss work, although there are times when his writing makes me so sad. His stories usually are very realistic in that while the characters may deserve the best happy ending, they may not always get it. See what I mean about being realistic? But there is something cathartic in reading that kind of story, I think, and Sweet Sorrow is no exception. As you can tell from the title, this story is bittersweet. I loved how the point of view changed from past to present, so we could really experience the relationship between Charlie and Fran firsthand. They felt so real to me and I could relate to them both on many different levels. I wasn't overly crazy about the ending, but that's just me. In all honesty, it was the best possible outcome for Charlie.
