So, let's be honest to start- I completely accidentally used my first 2000 point BookishFirst selection to request this book by clicking the wrong button. I thought the original excerpt from this book was clever and funny, but not necessarily one I felt important to own. I have a decent sized cookbook collection already, and wasn't sure that this book was one that I needed to add.
One thing that completely sets this book apart is the photography. I've seen good food photography before, but the design and photos in this book are a step above just "good". The author of this cookbook is also a tattoo artist, and the design and photography of this book let her artistic talent shine.
The author uses a "burn" scale to rate the difficulty of the recipes, and there is a good mix of simple recipes for novice bakers and more advanced recipes for those more confident in the kitchen. The recipe titles are consistently punny and over the top (Every Day I Regret You S'more; Stop Texting Me You Crepe; TBH, You're a Total D-Bagel are just a few examples).
If you have someone in your life who needs a pick me up but also has retained a sense of humor, this may be the book for them. I personally found the tone a little grating and overly snarky, but I'm not currently feeling bitter or out for revenge.
