This memoir was by no means poorly written, but it didn’t work for me (from the short amount I read). It might be more to do with my mood than the book itself — there’s something about reading a memoir that doesn’t have quite the same escapism as fiction — and in 2020, I feel it challenging to engage in memoirs or nonfiction. Reading the news as much as I do, when I read a book, I want fictional worlds and stories. So this is very much the case of not being the right book for me, right now. Fans of memoirs will likely feel differently!
