When I read the first look on Bookish First, I thought this seemed like a unique and chilling story. Unfortunately, the initial allure created by the intriguing prologue was short-lived. Perhaps it is, in part, because of the translation, but I think it’s largely that I’m not much of a science-fiction fan. At any rate, the writing mostly felt cold. There wasn’t any literary flow to the narrative and I didn’t find it engaging. There was not enough suspense building to pull me through from start to finish and I did end up abandoning this one. I think true sci-fi fans might value this story more than I did and will likely be less bothered by the distant tone of the storytelling. I was not the right reader for this particular book.
