I had difficulty buying into the premise that everyone over the age of 13 would die at the same time from a supernova event. From there, it went downhill for me. The book frequently reads more like a history than a book of fiction, which was a conscious style choice, but one I didn't care for. It allowed for little growth or character development.

I have heard great things about this author, and this is the first book of his I've read. I'm going to try something he's written more recently. This is an early book, possibly brought back because of some similarities to the American politics in the book and the current situation under President Trump, where it's about winning, rather than good or humane policy.
