DNF AT 50%

I'm not going to be writing a lengthy review for this book. Unfortunately, I only got about halfway before I gave it up as a bad job. I don't think it's fair of me to write a review on a commercial site either, because I don't want to prejudice people against it if they read my singular review. So this review will only be available on Bookish First and maybe Goodreads.

Eight light-years away from Earth, a star dies. This causes Earth to be exposed to levels of radiation that are fatal to humans over the age of 13. This happens over a period of days, which means that the entire planet has been equally exposed. In a matter of months, adults will die. There is no way around this fact; it's an inevitability. So the adults do the only thing they deem feasible: they start training kids to do everything that their relatives currently do now. So doctors train junior doctors, pilots train junior pilots, etc. Which sounds good in theory but remember: they're just kids. They don't want to be doing this. And then the adults die an masse, and the kids are left to their own devices.

This is where it's supposed to get interesting, but to me it wasn't interesting at all. I felt like it was a chore to keep reading; I wasn't connecting with the story being told whatsoever. So unfortunately I DNFed it at 50% and it's a one-star rating from me. All opinions are of course my own.
