Cixin Liu has made a name for himself as one of the most talented fiction writers that the world has to offer. His Three-Body Problem is widely heralded as a sci-fi masterpiece, and Supernova Era is the latest novel of his to be published in America. In the near future, a supernova event showers the planet in lethal amounts of radiation that will kill off all adults within a year. Children under the age of 13 are spared from certain death due to their higher cell-regenerating abilities. The clock keeps ticking as parents seek to impart all of their knowledge, morals, and wisdom to their children. But will the children choose to follow their parents? Or will they seek out their own paths? Liu explores the political/socioeconomic ramifications of a new generation reshaping the world, almost as a macrocosm of the Cultural Revolution in China. Overall, Supernova Era is a fascinating read and a fresh take on the dystopian genre.

"In those days, Earth was a planet in space.
In those days, Beijing was a city on Earth."
