This is the longest First Impression I've read so far, and it was worth the investment. In the beginning, I had a hard time understanding where this story was going. But as it progressed, I realized what an interesting concept the author had created.

My one frustration with the story is that the author seems to ignore the existence of books, either those written prior to the supernova or the concept of journals that could have been kept by adults thereafter. The adults were teaching their children how to take over their jobs, but each child has two parents; how was the decision made as to which job a child would learn? Certainly some children were not suited for the job for which they were trained.

I would certainly continue this book to see how the children fare; I feel very connected to them by this point in the story.
