I was hesitant to read this First Look. Sometimes, when reading translated novels, the essence of the original is lost, and it can be hard to relate to characters. Joel Martinsen did a phenomenal job on the translation. The writing style is beautiful and he masterfully conveyed Liu Cixin's words.
I cannot stop thinking about this book since I read it 4 days ago. I have even dreamed of it. The premise of the story is intriguing, but it truly is the writing style that has me hooked. Liu has a brilliant way of conveying advanced scientific and astronomic processes in language that is vivid and visual and easily comprehended by the reader. I have dreamt of the fantastic nebula lingering in the sky as he has described. I have contemplated the child nations that were established to determine which children would be suited to leadership roles. I have pestered my boyfriend incessantly that he needs to read the First Look and submit his own First Impression as this book is something he would enjoy immensely.
