One of the strongest points of this story is the modern take on the stereotypical high school teen experience. The nerdy friendship of the DIY LARPers was adorable, and I think a lot of people will connect to it. Sunny's coming of age tale is him coming to terms with losing the next door neighbor girl he's crushing on vs. taking his older brother's rocker style to win her over. There's a lot of ups and downs to this storyline, but the message is truly where it shines: be yourself. And I KNOW many of you would yawn at this because it's an age old trope, but I really think David Yoon made it genuine. One of the pivotal scenes involves the brothers truthfully yelling at one another and a busy road near them. You can probably connect the dots from there, but I actually saw myself with my own brother in that scene when we've been at our most angry at the other. The dynamics were just too real, and I felt for everyone in their own way. Overall, I read this for class, and I'm typically not a contemporary reader. It was sweet and a nice change of pace!
