My first impression of this book was that it sounded really interesting, as it reminded me of Dear Evan Hansen, which I had really enjoyed. I feel bad for giving such a low rating, it just wasn’t a book for me. First off, the story surrounded this ‘nerdy’ world that I didn’t quite understand. I usually enjoy contemporary romance stories, but the story just didn’t sit right with me. I didn’t love the author’s writing style, it felt like most of the characters had very similar voices. Aside from that, the whole time I felt a knot in my stomach knowing what Sunny was doing. There were more specific things that I didn’t love. A lot of the relationships in the story seemed weird to me. Jamal, Milo, and Sunny’s relationship seemed toxic, the two tried to resist what Sunny wanted, but he ended up persuading them to follow, in pretty much every circumstance. Gunner and Sunny’s relationship also made no sense to me, there was a huge shift in an unreasonable amount of time. It was a quick read, just not the book for me, I would probably recommend it for younger readers or people who enjoy more ‘nerdy’ things.
