Super Fake Love Song is so much fun, and reminded me of the high school rom-coms that I love. I was initially worried that I wouldn’t love SUPER FAKE LOVE SONG since the premise is Sunny Dae lying about being in a rock band to impress a girl he likes. (I was shaking my head at Sunny.) When Sunny decides to make his lie into reality, I was nervously waiting for the moment everything would come crashing down.

However, Sunny won me over as he recognizes his own defense mechanisms and finds the confidence to be himself. Forming a band leads to Sunny reconnecting with his older brother Gray, and I loved the way their relationship grows, falters, and strengthens. Although they haven’t been close for years, through talking about music they’re able to have honest conversations about their hopes and fears. I was totally charmed by Sunny’s friendship with Milo and Jamal, and their passion for creating live action role playing props and producing DIY videos. Milo and Jamal agree to Sunny’s rock band plan, and were truly the most supportive friends.

In comparison to Gray, Milo, and Jamal, the love interest Cirrus was a less memorable character, but I related to her feelings about her family moving constantly. Overall, this was such a delightful story about self-discovery.
