This is the first book by David Yoon that I have read. The writing was a bit quirky and sometimes took away from the reading experience, but the book was still quite cute and funny.

Main character Sunny may be a nerd to others at school, but he has two close friends in Milo and Jamal, who share the same passions as him. They run their own video channel where they create fantasy props. I liked their friendship and how Milo and Jamal supported Sunny's fake rock group lie to impress Cirrus.

Love interest Cirrus is a complicated character who feels adrift in the world as her parents' jobs keep her moving to new countries and schools without forming deep connections with others. When she meets Sunny, she feels like she has finally found her reason to stay put, which is why his lies and pretending to be someone else hurt her hard and shake her trust in him.

The storyline was fairly predictable as you know what always happens when you pretend to be someone you are not to impress someone else. But that's not to say there were not some surprises. I liked the enemies to friends side story and it showed that people are not always who they put out to the world. We all have different sides to ourselves that we might be afraid to put out there or do not even know we have until we go outside our comfort zone.
