This book surprised me - from the cover, I thought it would be a light-hearted and maybe even silly read. However, I quickly found that the story has some unexpected depth, as Amandla faces a variety of challenges like her mother being irrational and secretive. I like how Amandla is both determined and uncertain (she is only 15, after all). The twist that shows up in chapter 5 made me even more curious about her family and left me wanting to know more!
