The cover is pretty, but somehow it seems to be missing something. It's not the eye candy that I would expect for a fantasy. Insofar as the story is concerned, it reminded me of the movie Red Cliff where the strategist (who also plays a zither) guides the war effort in the Battle of Red Cliffs.
Zephyr is the maint protagonist and MC. She came across as too arrogant for me. And it just didn't seem quite feasible that the armies consisted of primarily women.
In any event, the story just didn't quite grab me. But it will be interesting to learn how Zephyr's undercover act plays out, and how the zither is used in the whole scheme of things.
