When I read Joan He's previous book The Ones We're Meant to Find last year it immediately became a favorite of the year. I loved her writing and story-crafting so much. So when I saw she was coming out with a new book that was completely different (i.e. historical fantasy vs futuristic sci-fi) I was immediately intrigued. Add in the fact that it's a retelling as well and I'm hooked.
The first impression of this was great. You get a sense of Zephyr's character right away, as well as the tension of the situation she's in. Add that to the fact that there's a character roles list and a map at the beginning of the book and I already know this is going to be an engaging read.
