I had a hard time with this book…the description of the book calls Julie a strong woman but I found her to be vapid and not willing to take any control of her own life situation. She is melodramatic and shrill for most of the book. Why could she not just confront Dan and stand her ground? Why does she automatically assume that she is at fault and not enough when he’s the one who has been cheating and clearly doesn’t care about their relationship? I found her dependence on religion very boring and flat, just another crutch in a painful plot where the main character surrenders all agency. On top of disliking the characters, I also found the plot yo be disjointed and hard to follow. This is the first book I have read in a while that I struggled to finish, although I do not typically read contemporary Christian literature anyway. I will not be reading the sequel. The cover was also generic and not eye catching.
