I love Marie Lu's books and this was a fun route for her to take. I love spy thrillers, and this was a great YA spy thriller with the twist that they turn a major pop star into a temporary spy, and he's surprisingly really good at it because a lot of celebrity skills and spy skills align. It had all the great character and world building that Marie Lu excels at, but also full of intense action and suspense. There was a little bit of romance thrown in as well, very gender-bent Whitney Houston's The Bodyguard, full on including the "I Will Always Love You". The main characters were snarky, snappy, and full of great personality, both with their own traumas and pasts that are super interesting and add great depth to their characters. There were a few twists in there that I did not see coming (and a couple I definitely did see) and it totally kept me on my toes and speed reading to find out what happens next as I got closer and closer to the end. It was a lot of fun and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I can't wait to read the next one and see what mission these two tackle next!
