I'm a fan of Marie Lu's writing. I have read many of her books and thoroughly enjoyed them all. This story is just as good as the rest of them.
We have three damaged people here. There is Winter Young, a superstar fashioned on the K-pop entertainers, who has really never met his father. His mother keeps him at arms length because he reminders her of his father, a man she has bad memories of. There is Sydney Cossette, a young spy who's mother died when she was a child. Her father was an unavailable alcoholic, so she raised herself as much as she was able. Lastly, there is Penelope Morrison, daughter of a crime boss billionaire and another dead mother.
It seems the spy agency Sydney works for is gathering evidence of those crimes. They have been having trouble getting close to the tycoon. He has decided to give his daughter a spectacular nineteenth birthday party, topped with a concert by Winter. Winter is convinced to allow Sydney to pretend to be his personal bodyguard so she can get closer to the evidence. Only someone kills the crime boss and shoots at Winter and Penelope. Sydney is told the mission is over since the target is dead. She doesn't stop investigating, leading to the thrilling conclusion.
The story has a solid ending, but we are left with the possibility there may be more stories with Sydney and Winter. They did make a good team and an interesting team, the spy and the entertainer. I liked the book. I found it to be a fast read. I highly recommend it to you.
