Review:

I really loved this book! I was very entertained by the mystery/spying/training that happened throughout the story! There were so many different things happening in order to find out what was truly going on behind the scenes in the bad guy’s headquarters and I loved being along for the ride. I expected the plot twist a little bit, but not the entirety of the twist that occurred. I loved Sydney & Winter’s banter both before and during their mission. I loved that they both (in their spying/people reading) picked up new skills and were able to cover each other’s blind spots in gathering information accurately. I also really enjoyed getting inside their handlers’ heads by way of mission logs.

While this story is part of a series, I was pretty satisfied reading it as a stand-alone. The only thing that isn’t “completed” story-wise by the end of this book is the romance. They don’t get a happily ever after together by the end of the book, more like understanding where they both stand (liking each other but with their jobs they unfortunately can’t continue). By the end of the book, I felt like it was more like an action movie ending where you know that there’s going to be more for them, and you can go either way on wanting more right now or being okay with waiting for the more.

Summary:

Winter Young is a famous young pop star who seems like he has everything anyone could ever want. Though he never would have expected for his fame to garner the attention of a secret spy organization long enough for them to want him to join their roster for a high profile mission. With lives on the line, Winter is willing to help out the best he can. It’s what his brother would have done, and Winter will do anything to feel closer to him…

Sydney Cossette joined the secret spy organization as their youngest ever recruit. And she plans to keep on beating the odds by being the best spy in their repertoire. She doesn’t care for relationships, she doesn’t have the time. Not with all the training she has to endure in order to keep herself in shape for any kind of mission. But nothing could have prepared her to work with the pop star she’s been paired with on her latest mission. Sydney believed Winter to be a self absorbed, cocky guy with no hope of making it out alive. She thought wrong. Winter picks up anything Sydney puts down for training and puts thought into his every move and expression. He is a far cry from the partner she thought she was being set up with, and she couldn’t be any more glad of the fact.

With Sydney playing Winter’s bodyguard for an exclusive and high profile private birthday party for the daughter of a major crime boss, they will both have access to spaces that the agency hasn’t been able to get close to in the past. All they have to do is find even a shred of evidence that can let others move in to arrest the man in charge and halt his dealings across the board. But things aren’t as they seem, and not just when it comes to their expectations of each other. Something else is going on and both of them feel the need to complete their mission, even if it leads them deeper than their handlers want them going…
