I really enjoyed this! It’s a very engaging story, right from the beginning. The characters were all full dimensional, dynamic, and clever. They pulled me in right away and kept me turning the pages.
The story was a little slow in the first few chapters, largely as character backstories were conveyed. By the middle of the story, the action speeds up a lot and then just keeps sprinting until the end. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. Marie Lu is so great at capturing movement and intensity in action scenes. The dynamic characters and the twisting action plot line kept me throughly engaged and I couldn’t put this down until I got to the end. I’m still not sure how I feel about the ending, but I enjoyed the ride.
I’m not a huge fan of cliffhangers or opening endings, so the ending didn’t totally work for me, personally. I like books, even if they’re part of a series, to stand on their own.
