The cover was immediately drew me in. I loved the colors, composition and the fact that it portrayed an averaged-sized woman embracing her body so confidently. Started reading and loved the little pug in the life ring. However, what I was not expecting was the book to be in short poems. This type of book is definitely out of my wheelhouse and I’m glad I tried it. I have never read a book that tells the story through solely poems and prose. I enjoyed the overall themes of this book and how it tackles weight, self confidence, and body shaming. I liked how the poems/chapters were short and I could tell this book would be a quick read. However, I just don’t think I would enjoy reading a book that only featured the story through poems. I want to get lost in the words, struggles and drama, and this books just didn’t feel like it would deliver that to me.
