I know everyone thinks middle school books about bullying are overdone; don’t get me wrong, they can be. However, that should never stop us from picking them up when released because the lessons they teach us are still vastly important. Most of us know that bullying is wrong, but we forget that these books also teach us how the world is for people who are at disadvantage. We cannot show each other empathy if we do not understand what each other has to go through every day. This book is just one of many that can help us reach this goal. It is also funny and well-written and phenomenal. I would recommend this book to anyone, but I would especially recommend it to teachers for their classrooms (I am a teacher so I would know) and anyone who has forgotten what it feels like to be a little kid in a big world. I am a big fan of this novel and an even bigger fan of brave, young Ellie.
