Star Fish was the book I wish I'd had when I was growing up. It had such a wonderful message about body positive and feeling okay with taking up space in the world. It also totally captures what it's like to be fat, and to live by a set of rules that make other people okay with your fatness. I also loved the emphasis on telling young girls its okay to browse to find a doctor you really like and that works with you the way you need. That's not something I've ever seen come up in a book before, but I think it's very relevant and important.

The writing was solid, and even though it's written for a much younger audience I think it's a great read for adults too. Especially for fellow fat girls who have had to play by other people's rules just to survive.

The friendships outlined in the book are also so sweet and heartwarming. The family that moves in next door is incredible and it makes me wish I had that kind of love and support mine.

All in all, a very worthwhile read, and one I'd recommend to fat people and people who want to understand the fat experience alike.
