This book brought back all sorts of memories of middle school and even later in life so there are always people bullying you for one thing or another. I cried a couple times while reading it. Ellie is an 11-year-old girl who gets bullied for her weight. Her best friend moves away and luckily her new neighbor is her age and they become friends. She is bullied for other reasons but they have each other. Throughout the book, you can see the acceptance of Ellie for who she is from her dad, her best friends, and their families but you see the impact that the bullying she receives from not only classmates but her own mother and brother hit her the hardest. Her self-esteem is extremely low and she bullies herself. The ending of the book is hopeful.
This is such an important book for everyone to read. It would be especially helpful to mothers of pre-teen daughters and their daughters' to read it and hopefully have open and honest conversations about the story.
