Wow! Much like our main character, I too was forever reminded of my horrible mistake of swimwear to our city’s public pool. Ellie’s was a whale suit, mine was a hippo suit. As a plus size woman I found myself relating to more of these scenarios than I would like to admit. Weight is an issue that many suffer with and this story is a rare, personal dive, head on into those issues.
Ellie is overweight and relentless bullied for it. This book captures so many issues that young plus size girls go through. After talking with a therapist, again much like myself, Ellie realizes she does not need to be treated like this. I think this book will become a very impactful piece of literature for future girls and women. It can be hard to read/re-live some of the traumatic scenes, especially if you have ever been bullied about your weight, but the end product is a pure masterpiece. A work of heart wrenching, art.
