The interesting take on this novel about a quite overweight young girl is that she tells it with the sparest of prose, free verse. In short segments only a page or two long, we begin to learn about Ellie and the horrible life she has because of how others react to her weight. Yet, she has a resilient spirit and when she discovers a plus-size clothing store, she begins to develop a different strategy for facing the world.
