I don't read a lot of sci-fi but the type of sci-fi that I do enjoy is very quiet contemplative sci-fi like this. The main character has a very soothing and straight forward way of describing things that I really enjoy and appreciate. I'm sure his interactions with the teenage girl who is about to be teleported will likely be an important aspect of the story. I really enjoyed the contrast inherent in their interactions.
