This book didn't work with me. I was sure it would be such an emotional read and it does have trigger warnings of abuse.
Sparrow is a talented and dedicated dancer. Dancing and her friends are her life until she falls in love for the first time. Her whole world is thrown off balance. For me, the fact that she falls for Tristan, who may I add used to make fun of her and her friends, was very cliche. Its the story of a girl who was convinced that he has changed and as time goes on, its evident he hasn't. He is controlling, abusive both physcially and emotionally and it is truly heartbreaking what Sparrow experiences. I have to commend the Mary Cecilia Jackson for addressing situations like this. It was heartbreaking.
However, the fact that the story was jumping all over the place and it took away from the heart of the story. I enjoyed how the story was told from not just Sparrow's view (who of course has on rose color glasses) but also her best friend Lucas who is looking on the outside of the situation. But the timeline was off and that took away from the story and made it hard to connect.
