As a fan of Laurie Halse Anderson books, I was really excited to pick this one up. Abuse and other difficult topics can be really hard to write about effectively and naturally, and I think that the author of Sparrow did a really great job balancing realism with tact. There is a wide range of emotions that the narrator is dealing with and they felt realistic and believable. I felt like the writing style really draws in the reader and keeps them engaged. The characters were believable and read as real people. I felt connected to the characters and wanted the best for Sparrow. I also really enjoyed the addition of Lucas's point of view, as it added another dimension to the story for the reader to help better understand the impacts of this type of situation.
